On September 24, 2011 the Cowichan Young Naturalists Club joined the Quamichan Stewards to restore the lakeshore riparian area at Sterling Ridge Park. The sun was shining while the crew worked hard to plant 160 native shrubs.
These plants will absorb nutrients (pollution) from surface runoff and help control flooding while providing habitat for trout fry in the spring.
The following projects which were given high priority in the Implemantation Guide of the Management Plan and will be carried out in 2011.
Jon Robinson, a masters student with SFU's School of Public Policy is working under Dr. Nancy Oleweiler on a study which examines Quamichan watershed residents willingness-to-pay for ecological services. Jon is in the process of finalizing his survey and hopes to send it out to residents in December.
So watch your mailboxes and please take the time to complete it and mail it back to Jon.
